The transformation of Te Aro Courtenay continues to gather momentum, with work now underway on the Victory Building at 72 Courtenay Place – the second project in Te Aro Hā – Courtenay's programme of building façade improvements.
Home to popular Wellington hospitality venues The Ballroom, Shady Lady and Dragonfly, the Victory Building is the latest to benefit from the initiative, which brings together building owners, design and construction expertise, and funding support to deliver practical improvements across the precinct. This work is a key part of Te Aro Hā – Courtenay's wider vision to reposition Courtenay as Aotearoa's premier creative and entertainment precinct.
The refresh includes painting the building's façade and canopy, alongside lighting improvements, helping to enhance the building's street presence and contribute to a brighter, more welcoming Courtenay Place.
Following the successful completion of the first façade refresh at 46 Courtenay Place (Winner Winner), the Victory Building project marks another step forward in creating a more vibrant neighbourhood.
Like the first project, the Victory Building refresh has been made possible through a partnership with the building owner and partial funding from Wellington City Council's Heritage Resilience and Regeneration Fund.
By working collaboratively with property owners and local businesses, Te Aro Hā – Courtenay aims to make improvements easier to deliver and encourage further investment across the neighbourhood.
With more projects in the pipeline, these individual improvements are beginning to build visible momentum – demonstrating how, building by building, we can breathe new life into Te Aro Courtenay.
